Every now and then, a new item comes in that is different than what is tied to your recipes.
If ignored, this has the potential to slightly skew your consumption data, however this can be addressed easily.
Substitutions are handled by our system in the following way:
- The new substitution item's inventory is not tracked by itself, it is simply added to the main item (the one that is tied to a recipe(s)). Imagine, for example, pouring 4 small bags of rice into a half empty large bag.
- This way recipes don't need to be altered, and your order recommendations remain intact.
- When it's time to make a new order, you can choose to order the original item, or the substitution item. We will recommend the correct amount based on the correct ratio (8 small bags of rice, or 1 larger bag for example).
Here's how to make sure this happens successfully:
First you map a substitution in the Recipes Tab, and then you "pour" one into the other in the inventory tab.
- At any time, navigate to the Recipes Tab > Ingredients Sub Tab and find the main ingredient item you wish to add a substitute to. Then click the
button and then select the new substitute ingredient (the one tied to the recipe - the small bag of rice in our example).
- When receiving an item, you can also check the "Substitute" button to map this to another ingredient in a recipe.
- Lastly, in the inventory tab, go to the main item currently mapped to your recipe. In the Current/Adjustments column, click on the pencil beside "Substituted:" and then select the item you want to stock this item with (the substitution). Select how many units you want to move and hit save changes.
And that's it!
We will add the inventory values together, and the remove the appropriate quantity as you sell. What matters after all is that you have what you need to assemble your recipes.
If you wish to separate the items afterwards, you will need to count them separately.
