Overview
Packing slips and shipping labels serve different purposes. A packing slip describes the shipment's contents; a carrier label is part of the shipping-service workflow.
Create a packing slip
- Open the customer order and choose Create Packing Slip.
- Review the products and quantities being shipped.
- Add the tracking number where relevant.
- Complete the action and review the generated document.
Check partial shipments carefully. The quantity on the slip should describe the goods in that shipment rather than automatically copying every ordered quantity.
Create a shipping label
- Connect the supported shipping provider from Home.
- Open the order's label action.
- Review destination and ship-from information, service options, package weight, and dimensions.
- Check the quoted service and any cost before confirming the label.
- Review the label and tracking information returned.
Use the correct connection
ShipStation Shipping uses an API v2 or ShipEngine key for the shipping workflow. ShipStation ERP uses API v1 credentials for its separate ERP workflow. Credentials for one connection are not interchangeable with the other.
Check fulfillment ownership
Some ERP connections change the fulfillment controls shown on Home or an order. Use the workflow offered for the connected system and avoid creating a second shipment in another system for the same physical package.
If a label or shipment fails
Read the provider error and check address, package details, carrier availability, and connection. Confirm whether the provider already created a label before retrying. Review order activity and tracking after a successful action.
