Overview
A pack is the quantity you buy in one purchasing unit. A procurement variant represents another way to buy the same underlying item, such as a different case size or supplier offer. Correct pack setup is essential for ordering, receiving, and counting.
Use the same quantity language as the screen
If one case contains 12 bottles, two cases and two bottles are different quantities. Read the selected pack-or-unit control before entering a number. Do not put the case count into a field that expects individual units.
Size describes the contents or measure used by the item. For ingredients and components, check the unit of measure as well as the pack count. A quantity of grams cannot be treated as a count of cases without the appropriate conversion.
Add a procurement variant
- Open the product or procurement-item variant action in Items.
- Choose an existing procurement item or Add New Procurement Item.
- Select the supplier or catalog item.
- Review Pack Size, Size, Unit Cost, SKU, and minimum order.
- Confirm which product or parent item the variant stocks, then save.
When order and catalog packs differ
Review the pack mismatch before applying a received order quantity to inventory. Determine whether the supplier actually changed its pack or whether the PO record was entered incorrectly. Correct the source that is wrong instead of forcing a count to compensate.
Check prices before comparing offers
Compare equivalent quantities. A cheaper case can still cost more per individual unit when it contains fewer units. Review the denomination shown with the cost and quantity rather than comparing two raw price numbers.
If stock changes by the wrong amount
Review the item's purchasing pack, its linked product, the order-item pack, and whether receiving or counting used packs or units. Check Stock Activity before recording a corrective count.
